Our curtains and roman blinds are made by skilled curtain-makers using traditional British techniques and styles. A single curtain-maker tailors each pair of curtains individually, from start to finish. All interlined curtains are handmade. For non-interlined curtains, you can choose either a handmade or a machine-finished curtain, which costs slightly less. All curtains are fitted with curtain weights in the corners to ensure they drape properly.
Curtain “fullness” specifies how much material has been used to make each curtain. Curtains require more fabric than the width of the window because the headings use up more width of fabric at the top section of your curtain. Listed below is our ideal fullness for each curtain style. This makes for a generous curtain, not a “bulky” one. If you’d like a fuller curtain, it’s no problem at all. Just call us and we can organise it.
Heading Type | Fullness |
Tab Top | 1.25 x pole/track width |
Eyelet | 1.5 x pole/track width |
Pleated Headings (all others) | 2 x pole/track width |
Our standard eyelet size has an internal diameter of 40mm. If your curtain pole is larger than this, please call us and we can arrange to make your curtains with a larger sized eyelet.
We give every pair of curtains a standard 6cm “return”. A “return” is the excess of fabric at the sides of a curtain to stop light filtering into your room. If you require a larger return, please call us.
We make the length of our curtains accurate to within +/- 0.5cm.
Some of our natural fabrics will stretch a little over time, particularly in length. Depending on the overall length of your curtain, this could be up to 1cm or so.
Do not put your curtains into the washing machine. The best way to clean them is to vacuum the fabric in situ. If that won’t do, then dry clean only but please be aware that dry cleaning can shrink the fabrics (especially in length) by up to 3%.
